he U.S. Department of Education (DOE) and Department of Justice issued joint guidance, reminding state and local educational agencies of their obligations to students identified as English learners. Along with the joint guidance, the DOE released resources to help better serve English learners, including fact sheets in multiple languages and a toolkit created by the DOE’s Office of English Language Acquisition, designed to help local educational agencies identify and address needs of English learner students. California schools serve approximately 1.4 million English learners, making these resources particularly important here.
